MFC Member Microbank Crystal Secures USD 20 Million from FMO to Expand Financing for Georgian Businesses

MFC member Microbank Crystal has signed a USD 20 million senior loan agreement with FMO, the Dutch entrepreneurial development bank, strengthening a partnership that has spanned nearly a decade. The financing, provided in local currency equivalent, will support the growth of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across Georgia, while 20% of the facility will be dedicated to green finance initiatives.
The agreement combines funding with a technical assistance component that will support Crystal’s institutional development through the implementation of strategic projects. The partnership is designed to strengthen the microbank’s operational capacity and support its long-term growth ambitions.
For Georgia’s entrepreneurs, the new facility will expand access to finance at a time when MSMEs continue to play a crucial role in economic development, job creation and local resilience. The dedicated allocation for green finance will also help increase the availability of funding for businesses investing in environmentally sustainable solutions.
Earlier this year, Crystal reached another important milestone by obtaining a microbank licence from the National Bank of Georgia. With more than 27 years of experience, a loan portfolio exceeding GEL 600 million, a nationwide network of branches and more than 100,000 clients, the institution continues to strengthen its position as one of Georgia’s leading providers of inclusive financial services.
This latest agreement demonstrates how partnerships between development finance institutions and MFC members can help expand access to finance for entrepreneurs while supporting sustainable economic growth and financial inclusion.
