Watch SIFTA recording: Climate Governance in Social Finance: From Compliance to Strategic Leadership

Climate risk is no longer outside the credit process. When a flood, drought or heatwave hits your clients, it lowers their income and damages their assets. Soon after, it reaches your institution as repayment stress, credit losses, concentration and liquidity risk, and reputational damage. For microfinance and social finance providers, client resilience and institutional resilience are the same thing.

This webinar shows how boards and management can build climate into strategy, risk oversight and lending decisions without losing sight of the social mission. You’ll learn IFC’s six-pillar Climate Governance Approach, who on the board and management team is responsible for what, and how to assess climate risk across a lending portfolio by segmenting and scoring sectors by exposure. The session also covers how to embed climate into credit decisions through scores, thresholds, covenants and limits, along with a practical 12-month roadmap and data approaches scaled for banks and MFIs of different sizes. You’ll leave with ready-to-use tools, including IFC’s Climate Governance Progression Matrix and Tip Sheet.

Speakers: Adalyat Abdumanapova, Corporate Governance and Sustainability Expert, and Anne Kullman, Corporate Governance Climate Lead, both from the International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group). Between them they have decades of experience advising boards and financial institutions across emerging markets.
