In Memoriam: Monique Cohen

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Monique Cohen, a long‑time friend, advisor, and dedicated MFC Council Member. Monique played a key role in strengthening MFC’s work in financial education and supported our growth across the globe.

She was one of those rare people whose intellect was matched by her generosity of spirit. Monique brought constructive energy to every discussion, encouraged us to think more boldly, and always did so with warmth, humour, and deep respect for the people our sector serves.

A pioneer in the global microfinance community, Monique shaped how the sector understands clients’ financial behaviour and needs. Through her leadership at Microfinance Opportunities (MFO) and her earlier work at USAID, she helped build the foundations of modern client‑centred research and financial education. She was also a passionate teacher, sharing her knowledge widely over many years.

Monique leaves behind a lasting legacy and will be remembered with deep gratitude and affection. The MFC community extends heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues.
