FINCA Azerbaijan Showcased as a Climate-Resilient Microfinance Innovator at COP30

At COP30 − the world’s most influential climate change conference held in Belém, Brazil − Microfinance Centre (MFC) and the Azerbaijan Micro-Finance Association (AMFA) recognized FINCA Azerbaijan as one of the leading microfinance institutions driving climate adaptation and energy-transition solutions.
During our workshop Microfinance for Climate Adaptation, Mitigation and Resilience: From Pilots to Scale, we showcased FINCA Azerbaijan’s groundbreaking Hybrid Agricultural Insurance Loan − a dual-facility product that:
- covers half of farmers’ insurance premiums
- provides an agricultural microloan to help them expand and climate-proof their farming activities
This innovative model was highlighted as a best-practice example of integrating credit and risk-transfer mechanisms to protect smallholders from climate-related losses.
By reducing upfront insurance barriers and pairing financing with protection, FINCA Azerbaijan has created an accessible, practical tool for farmers facing increasing climate variability.
The COP30 workshop emphasized that FINCA Azerbaijan’s approach demonstrates how microfinance can:
- strengthen household resilience
- stabilize rural livelihoods
- unlock wider adoption of agricultural insurance among low-income farmers
Global climate fund leaders, regulators, and practitioners at COP30 recognized FINCA Azerbaijan’s contribution as a powerful illustration of how microfinance institutions can deliver climate adaptation to communities often overlooked by traditional funding mechanisms −providing both capital and risk-management tools to withstand droughts, floods and other climate shocks.
