European Microfinance Day 2026: Strengthening Microfinance for the Next Multiannual Financial Framework

On April 16, 2026, the Microfinance Centre, alongside the European Commission (DG EMPL), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Microfinance Network (EMN), hosted European Microfinance Day in Brussels with 134 attendees.
Organized as a fi-compass event, the day brought together policymakers, microfinance providers and experts to reinforce the sector’s role in achieving EU and national social and economic goals.
The key topics covered:
- A regional spotlight on the Benelux countries provided real-world examples of ground-level implementation and challenges presented by MFIs and final recipients of microfinance support.
- Strategic Policy Alignment on microfinance as a critical tool within the various EU policy frameworks including EU’s new Anti-poverty strategy.
- Microfinance related solutions to support vulnerable groups within national policy priorities from perspective of Member States and Microfinance sector representatives identifying the policy and practical actions needed to ensure microfinance will remain effective and impactful tool of the next Multiannual Financial Framework supporting vulnerable groups.
MFC was represented by Wojciech Stępień, CEO, Beata Biela, Advocacy Manager and Pavol Kapsdorfer, Network and Partnership Manager.
