Driving Inclusive Growth through Microfinance in Greece

MFC has long been dedicated to strengthening local microfinance associations and advancing the role of microfinance institutions (MFIs) and social finance providers across Europe. In November, MFC, as part of the SIFTA Program, co-hosted a workshop at the Bank of Greece: Role of Microfinance and Inclusive Finance in the Economic Development of Greece
The event brought together Greek MFIs and social finance providers to exchange knowledge and explore solutions for inclusive growth.
Key discussions included:
- Current state of microfinance in Greece (Bank of Greece)
- Impact of the AI Act on the sector
- Innovative funding tools like digital bonds
- Post-2027 MFF outlook (EIF)
- Female entrepreneurship and loan programs (Hellenic Development Bank)
With contributions from the Governor of the Bank of Greece, the Vice Minister of Finance, and leading sector experts, the workshop reinforced the role of microfinance in building resilient economies.
Thank you to all participants and organizers for making this exchange possible.
