I want to make my expenses smarter

It’s easier than you think. Here are the simplest things you can do. Choose one that fits you best and apply them on daily basis.

  • Shop with a shopping list OR take a picture of your fridge and cupboard before leaving to a shop
  • Do not go shopping hungry! You will buy less
  • Shop for cash only – set up limit for spending
  • Set up daily budget for spending for groceries
  • If you buy food at promotion, freeze it divided into portions (to allow partial consumption)
  • Eliminate waste of food: plan your weekly menu and shop accordingly. Prepare the menu based on what you already have in the fridge and kitchen cupboard.
  • Set up daily budget for spending for pleasures
  • Purchase your everyday favorite drink only on selected days (most people choose Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays)
  • Purchase your everyday favorite sweets only on selected days (most people choose Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays)
  • Prepare tasty snacks at home at take them to the office instead of buying them on site.
  • Rent a book instead of purchasing.
  • Go to the movie theater during the week rather than on Friday or Saturday (when tickets are more expensive)
  • In the morning, pre-commit how much your will spend this day and stick to it.
  • You may want to put a reminder on the phone for each morning
  • Once a weak prepare your lunch at home and take it to work.
  • Set up a weekly budget for eating out
  • Need to buy a baton every day? Buy it every second day!
  • Set up a reminder to take a bottle of water from home instead of purchasing it at higher costs in the city center.
  • Select the days on which you will eat out – most people select Friday and Saturday
  • Shop for cash only – set up limit for spending
  • Purchase new clothes only every second month
  • If you find a cloth you want to buy, ask the clerk to keep it for you for two days and decide to wait with your purchase two days.
  • Agree with your family member that before buying unplanned thing you will call them to discuss the purchase.
  • Use public transport instead of your car every Thursday
  • Use bike in the summer instead of your car to travel to work
  • Share the car with your neighbor to go to work – share costs
  • Change the light bulbs into energy saving ones
  • Unplug appliances on stand-by mode (chargers, microwave, etc)
  • Take shower instead of bath to save on water.
  • Stop the water to run while brushing your teeth.
  • Turn off the light anytime you leave the room empty.
  • Cover the pod with a lid while cooking to save energy.
  • If you need to boil water for one cup of tea, boil not more than you need to save on energy.
  • Turn off the heating while opening a window (during cold season).
