#SFV2022 Financial Inclusion of Refugees in Europe: Important Opportunities

For refugees to contribute to their host community as
employees, entrepreneurs and consumers — access to financial services is
fundamental. Yet legal, administrative or practical barriers hinder full
financial inclusion. This means that refugees may be unable to sign a work or
rental contract, send or receive remittances, save money in a secure place, buy
goods online or obtain credit to grow their business. In this session, the representatives of the
UNHCR, EU institutions, the financial sector and refugees discussed
opportunities to increase access to financing of refugees across Europe. They also explored innovative approaches on financial
inclusion of refugees, shared good practices,
first hand experiences
from refugees and the business case for investing in refugee financial
inclusion.
